Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 5, 2026  ·  Last updated: May 8, 2026

The short version: It's Just A Dance is built around privacy by design. We collect only what's necessary to connect you with a dance partner at a venue. Your session data is deleted when you leave. We do not sell or share your personal information. We don't show your photo, and we don't let anyone message you.

1. Who we are

It's Just A Dance ("we," "us," or "our") is an iOS application developed and operated by Michael Rivera, based in Texas, United States. You can reach us at support@itsjustadance.com.

2. What information we collect

3. What we never collect

4. How we use your information

5. We do not sell or share your personal information

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing or commercial purposes. This applies to all users, including residents of California and other states with specific data sale restrictions.

We share data only with service providers who help us operate the app (listed in Section 9), and only to the extent necessary to provide those services.

6. Session ephemerality

When you check out — manually, by leaving the venue geofence, or through automatic expiration — your session data is permanently discarded. This includes your assigned color, active match requests, and browse history. This is by design and cannot be reversed.

Data retained across sessions: account, email, username, shape, dance styles, skill level, preferences, cumulative ratings, and dance history.

7. Gender preference filtering

Your gender preference is applied as a mutual compatibility filter entirely on our servers. It is never exposed to other users, never displayed in the app UI, and never transmitted beyond what is required to show compatible dancers.

8. Ratings and account permanence

Ratings are tied permanently to your account UUID — not your session identity. This is an intentional safety feature that prevents bad actors from evading accountability. Low-rated dancers are not explicitly penalized — they simply do not receive a rating badge.

9. Data sharing and service providers

10. Venue analytics and reporting

It's Just A Dance provides registered venue operators with access to aggregated, anonymous analytics about activity at their venue. This is a core feature of the service — venues use this data to understand their dance community and market their events.

What venue operators can see:

What venue operators cannot see:

All venue reports are aggregate and anonymous. A minimum threshold of 5 check-ins is enforced before any report is generated — preventing identification of individuals on low-traffic nights.

Venue operators are contractually required to keep dashboard data confidential and may not use aggregate data in ways that could identify individual dancers.

11. In-app purchases

Subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see, store, or handle your payment information.

12. Data retention and deletion

13. Children's privacy

It's Just A Dance is not intended for anyone under 18. We require users to confirm they are 18 or older during account creation. By creating an account, users affirmatively represent that they meet this age requirement. We rely on this self-attestation and do not independently verify age. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will terminate their account immediately. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact support@itsjustadance.com.

14. Security

We use industry-standard security practices including row-level security policies on all database tables, encrypted connections (TLS/HTTPS), server-side filtering to prevent unauthorized data access, and security-definer database functions to prevent cross-user data exposure. We collect the minimum data necessary to operate the service.

In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify affected users as required by applicable law.
